John C. Maxwell has always said, “Teamwork makes the dream work,” and I add, “Every dream needs a team.”

I was reminded of this last night at our annual MSNY staff Christmas party.  So many dedicated leaders on this team. Add in festive decor, plenty of Mexican fare, and a fun time was had by all.

Several “Team Truths” were evident last night…

Tenure is a Treasure — Relationships take time, and being with the same people over many years builds trust and that family feel.  This level of closeness requires patience and hanging in together through thick and thin.  No easy formulas for this type of bonding.

Crying at Goodbyes is a Good Sign — We said goodbye last night to Dave and Nadia Miller, who’ve been on our team for years and are moving to New Orleans in January. Eyes welled up as Ron gave tribute to Dave for being Exec Pastor and carrying our church for so long on many levels. Bidding farewell with tears indicates investment and connection. It’s a good sign, in spite of how hard it is to let go.

Laughter is Essential — We always share funny stories from the year, and being in ministry means never a shortage.  Laughter is a sign of health and vitality. Stirring and encouraging it is always a plus. Andrew Carnegie said it best, “There is little success where there is little laughter.”

Ron and I closed the party with a short vision-casting moment for 2013. “Raising Our Expectations” sums it up well. Here’s to doing the dream with this team!
