Lynette with friend and advisor Dr. Laura Lederer, Senior Director for Global Projects on Trafficking in Persons at the U.S. Department of State |
In 2007, with a combined 50-plus years of non-profit service, Lynette and her husband, Ron Lewis, formed Strategic Global Initiatives (SGI), an organization dedicated to giving a "voice to the vulnerable" around the world. SGI has identified child trafficking as one of its primary causes and one they believe justifies their undivided attention. In the fall of 2008, through SGI, Ron and Lynette launched the campaign "Stop Child Trafficking Now" to address this issue. Stop Child Trafficking Now is different than most in that its primary attention is focused on ending demand rather than the aim of so many other organizations who are focused on rescuing victims.
The mission of Stop Child Trafficking Now is to fund initiatives that identify and eliminate predators who traffic and enslave children for sexual exploitation around the world. Stop Child Trafficking Now targets predators who deal in human flesh to supply the sex industry everywhere in the world, including every one of our 50 United States. The Campaign looks to potential sponsors and donors to contribute so that special operations can be funded, targeting the trafficking network hierarchy.
SGI has partnered with specially trained elite operatives familiar with what it takes to investigate, infiltrate and bring to an end such operations. Stop Child Trafficking Now seeks to provide the funding necessary to assign these operatives and bring trafficking to a halt. In most other organizations who address child trafficking, rescuing children is the primary goal. We believe that for every child rescued there are many more that are abducted and a vicious cycle continues to grow. We believe that by eliminating the source of abductions and trading, the demand will diminish and fewer children will be abducted and enslaved.
To raise funds for this cause, Stop Child Trafficking Now is committed to special marketing/fundraising events across the US and around the world that serve as platforms to build awareness and promote this cause. The aim for marketing events like this is to attract media attention and focus a spotlight on the efforts of Stop Child Trafficking Now and its mission.
Inaugural Event: WALK TO STOP CHILD TRAFFICKING NOW - Rescue A Child with your SOLE
This event is scheduled for Sunday, September 27, 2009, and will roll out a comprehensive promotional/marketing campaign in early 2009. The event is expected to attract thousands of participants who will walk 1-2 miles as individuals and team members while raising money to Stop Child Trafficking Now! In addition, the event will feature a Stilettos Run where women will sprint in their high heels over several hundred yards with the hope of setting a new Guinness World Record. The event will take place at a midtown Manhattan venue, which will include a start/finish line Expo and an opportunity for sponsors to showcase their merchandise. If early interest is any indication, media attention for this event should be unparalleled.
